The flexibility of the MiniTec modular profile system makes it particularly appealing for certain applications. A prime example is laboratory furniture: there is very little off-the-shelf, as laboratories are usually custom-designed and therefore require tailored equipment.
Thulab GmbH operates as an independent family-owned company in the fields of consulting, planning, and turnkey laboratory solutions, as well as in equipment enclosures and custom constructions. The specialist from Dornholzhausen in central Hesse offers a wide range of custom-made products for laboratories. These include enclosures for all types of laboratory equipment (e.g., mass spectrometers, centrifuges, robots, etc.), fume hoods, walk-in cabins, lab benches, as well as special solutions such as partition walls, filling stations, and much more. The products serve various purposes. For extraction devices, the focus is on occupational safety and protection against hazardous substances. Conductive enclosures and benches are designed to protect electronic components, while supply air enclosures with filters and laminar flow boxes also ensure product protection. Solutions can also simplify workflow through customized features, such as integrating a crane into a product. Thulab’s clients come primarily from industry and research, but hospitals and certain government institutions, such as the police and the armed forces, are also among the customers. Versatile Solutions for Laboratories
He illustrates the variety and individuality of Thulab’s solutions with a few examples.
Almost all laboratory equipment comes with negative side effects, such as loud or unpleasant noise, uncontrolled heat emission, or the release of harmful substances from non-sealable containers. These devices operate continuously 24/7, with only one or two service interruptions per year. As a result, the strain on laboratory staff can be significant. Thulab enclosures, specifically designed to address these issues, provide a comprehensive solution: they create a comfortable working environment, ensure personnel safety, and protect often very expensive laboratory equipment. Ingeniously designed supply and exhaust systems, along with thermostat-controlled silent fans, prevent overheating within the enclosure.
This table is used for assembling electronic devices. The goal is always to combine multiple functions in a single product to save space and increase workflow productivity. Space is often limited in laboratories. Through customized and flexible planning, we were able to develop a solution that also ensures the necessary product protection.

Uhlmann explains: “The MiniTec profiles have become indispensable for us, primarily due to their high flexibility and clean design. It’s great to have solid profile surfaces available, which is important in laboratories not only for aesthetics but also for hygiene. The small radii of the profile edges are another aspect that stands out positively compared to other manufacturers.”
At Thulab, the profiles are extensively processed and modified. For example, the laboratory experts mill electronic components or cut additional grooves into the profiles to integrate fillings of various thicknesses.
The MiniTec modular system scores in many areas for Uhlmann: “The components can be easily combined with other systems, such as Vitris or Häfele sliding doors. Another important advantage of the MiniTec profiles and connectors is their ease of assembly. New employees do not require much time to learn this. It’s also important for us that ESD connectors with claws are available for proper grounding, allowing us to use MiniTec profiles even for enclosures in EX zones.”
Last but not least, the CEO praises the iCAD Assembler: “The software is easy to understand and saves us a lot of time, as we have to design each product from scratch. The iCAD Assembler is a huge relief for our production planning.”
